NICHES

‘nidus’ (Latin): nest à‘nichier’ (French): to nestle, build a nest à – Niches

We are fascinated by the potential of niches in creating spaces of empathy, and intellectually we are intrigued by the ‘niche construction theory’ explored in the fields of evolutionary biology and ecology.

Niches create intimate local environments within larger spaces, fostering a sense of belonging for the user. The spatial empathy created within the niches become great spaces of learning, both at the scale of individual study and for small group discussion.

Niches create contemplative moments, sometimes used as thresholds in our spatial sequences. They draw the user into them, as their intimate spatial form combined with the careful use of light & color, create personalized experiences.
