STEWARDSHIP

We believe that Environmental Stewardship extends both to natural and built environments. We don’t need to tear down and rebuild all the time. We like to breathe in new life to existing buildings.

Adaptive Reuse is our mindset because:

  • we respect what is built before us and we are the stewards of those memories,
  • we hate waste and tearing down existing buildings create a lot of it,
  • we believe that to create a sustainable world we need to significantly reduce the embodied energy of construction.

As part of our practice, sometimes we get the privilege to work in and around historically significant buildings. We work with utmost love towards them, and search for meaningful connections in our design responses.

At Efficiency Lab for Architecture, we consistently look for innovative ways to design and construction. This invention for a next generation enclosure system is granted a US Patent.

Not all our inventions are high tech. For this elementary school project in Senegal, we invented a Bamboo reinforced, slip formed, rammed earth column that offers a no-tech solution to an ancient construction technique.

Our architecture embraces nature. This school library stair hugs a banyan tree.

We carefully choreograph our buildings around natural elements to foster empathy with nature.

We design environmental mediators for improving thermal comfort in exterior spaces.

Sustainable design is integrated to our design language.

We are inspired by nature. Our architecture aspires to integrate and enhance ecosystems.
